Who are you and what do you do?
Hi My Name is Tanya Ellis personal trainer and creator of Energy To Excel.
I work with busy individuals who are usually aged 40+ who struggle with finding time to exercise, their weight, their energy levels, body confidence, or back / joint pain, and who would like to feel amazing with the confidence and energy to accomplish whatever they want!
What separates me from other Personal Trainers. nutrition coaches and Pilates instructors is that I have overcome difficulties with finding time to exercise, issues with dieting, depleted energy and lack of confidence, along with the stress that can come with these things.
And because of this my clients save time and effort not having to search for solutions on their own, save money on trying different diets by being provided with one that will work for them, and make money because not only do they increase productivity, they gain confidence to reach for new career & life goals.
Why do I help people get the results they deserve?
Before becoming a personal trainer I worked in IT. I was dissatisfied with what I was doing and no longer getting any personal satisfaction out of it. I sometimes found myself in situations that were quite stressful and it seemed to be getting worse so I wanted to find a way out.
I began working with a personal trainer who is now a very good friend of mine. Through training with her she showed me how to manage my stress levels. I found this to have such a good impact on me that Idecided I wanted to do the same and help people in a similar situation to me.
So I decided to train to become a personal trainer! My own trainer at the time mentored me throughout the process which was fantastic. When you train to become a personal trainer, people always talk about finding your niche, the area that is special to you. When I look back at my situation and how I felt working in a large company in the city and the stress that it caused me, I soon realised the type of people I want to work with.
I also observed the people around me, including members of my family, and noticed the changes to their bodies as they are getting older. Many of the issues people have are related to bad posture causing back pain and problems with mobility in other joints, much of which can be avoided. I therefore made the decision to train as a Pilates instructor, because I knew Pilates could help with this.
I also trained in nutritional therapy because food is a huge part in everyone’s life. I find people tend not to understand how the things they eat can affect their body. It’s all part of the package as far as I’m concerned. If you’re going be really healthy it has to include exercise, stress management, how you’re eating and how you feel about yourself in general.
I remember I was sitting in my brother’s house one New Year’s morning and I said to him “I don’t want to go to work tomorrow.” which he replied “Well don’t then!” I said I must and he told me that I didn’t have to do anything I don’t want to and just I thought – he’s right! That was it really, within that week I started to look at training courses and then went on to train part time whilst I was working. Once I had my level 2 gym trainers certificate I left. Within 3 months I had qualified as a gym instructor. Then I went on to finish my training to become a fully-fledged personal trainer.
My big “why” and the reason I do what I do… for me It’s so rewarding to make a difference to people’s lives, If I’m not making a difference to anyone’s life then there’s no point doing what I do. It comes down to the ability to make a big difference with very simple tools – that’s what it’s all about.
